How much of the NHS money has been spent and wasted keeping autistic people in hospital for years on high intensity wards, this could have been better funded by creating specialised accommodation where Autistic people can have their needs met and where they can access therapy, independence and work on life skills, something that isn't happening in hospitals and patients are enabled and lose their independence and freedom.
The following question was asked in a meeting “what is the next step and the wards intentions moving forward, as PICU wards are not autism-based wards and concerns around the PICU wards filling up without an exit strategy”
Why aren’t the NHS fighting and getting the government to see the bigger picture and get the right help for Autistic people 🤦♀️
Instead of striking for pay, strike for integrity for others and what matters as a member of a Nursing profession.
The reason why Nurses went into mental health Nursing, to help and make a difference. To care for poorly people.
People with Autism are not poorly.
Needs are not met.
Nurses can make little difference as there is no consistency, as patients are moved from ward to ward.
Restraining patients, this is not care work and ethical as a Nurse and probably not what many Nurses will envision as they do their training. Mental Health Nursing should be about making a difference to the well-being of patients. Sadly, this is not happening.
Strike for Autistic people to have the right accommodation and shout it from the rooftops that hospitals are not the right place and are not helpful to Autistics as little difference is made and causes more trauma.
